To the editor: It has occurred to me that it might be valuable at present to share research ideas and facilities to increase productivity and reduce costs. The plans that I propose are as follows :
Pooling Research Ideas: There are approximately 300,000 physicians in the United States; the number involved in research is relatively small. The constriction of Government funding and the high cost of operating a medical school or hospital, or both, has reduced substantially the amount of research money available.
