In view of the significant advances in neurology over the past decade or so, it is small wonder that in its most recent edition Dr. Alpers' text has grown to its present size. Neurochemistry and neurophysiology have burgeoned, and although detailed essays have no place and are not found in this book, the spin-off from research that has clinical application is presented.
Most of the material is carried forward from previous editions, with little change. The authors have rearranged topics into chapters based on similarities in the pathologic processes of seemingly unrelated diseases. Along this line, included in the chapter
