To the editor: We noted with interest the report by Dr. Conn in the June Annals (74:943-945, 1971), of the development of scrotal edema in cirrhotic patients after an abdominal paracentesis. He reported that during a 12-year-period in a busy hepatology unit, only 15 patients had developed this complication, that no other hepatologists with whom this syndrome was discussed had heard of it, and that no description of it had appeared in the medical literature.
We should therefore like to add two cases, which occurred consecutively, in which this complication developed after diagnostic paracentesis, using a small-gauge needle.
