It is difficult to be critical of a book that has so many good and useful elements in it. The authors have written a text that is clear and that is relevant to many of the issues facing physicians in their clinical practice. Important clinical and research advances of the past decade are outlined, with references readily accessible. For example, there are excellent sections on the relevance of dream research to sleep-wakefulness cycles in different psychiatric disorders, which are illustrated by complex but clinically useful tables.
