An eminent Russian anthropolagist, M. M. Gerasimov, describes his first efforts to reconstruct heads, with their faces, from complete or partial skulls, and the solutions of crimes that resulted. The principles he developed for such reconstructions, the work with prehistoric remains, and the construction of likenesses of historical figures, including the poet Schiller, are also discussed. An informal account that will hold the interest of any reader with interests in archeology, forensic medicine, applied anatomy, or European history. Illustrated and indexed.
