The authors have undertaken a very ambitious task: to include under one cover a comprehensive description of what is reasonably known about not only the cardiac but also the peripheral circulatory systems. The content ranges from a review of the basic principles of fluid mechanics, through a detailed description of regulatory mechanisms involving specialized circulatory systems in every organ, to a description of several clinical entities including shock and hypertension. Their primary thrust has been to present easily readable, understood, and recalled descriptions of what is known of circulatory regulatory systems.
