Every once in a while a unique book appears on the market that merits special attention. In my own student days, some 20 years ago, the study of carbohydrate metabolism by Soskin and Levine was such a book. Here is another one for the present generation, an eminently successful volume in which the author bridges aspects of clinical medicine and basic science and, by so doing, benefits both.
First he reviews, with exemplary clarity, the area of intermediary metabolism. Then he launches into the second and main part of the book, "Physiological Considerations: Energy Utilization." Here he brilliantly complements what
