With the recent resurgence of interest in the sickling diseases, a thorough description of the pathology of these disorders, especially from personal experience, would be welcome. Unfortunately, this book was a disappointment.
Expending considerable effort, Dr. Song has reviewed over 1,000 publications for his book. After seven introductory chapters, he systematically covers the problems of these disorders in various organ systems. Each chapter is composed of multiple short summaries of the cited papers, chronologically arranged. This format leads to a hodgepodge style with considerable redundancy and confusion.
