It is a most fitting and appropriate tribute that the publishers of Hemolysis and Related Phenomena have reissued this volume, first published in 1948, in commemoration of the death of its author. Dr. Ponder dedicated his entire life to understanding the red cell. In this volume he drew together his own observations with those contributions of others that he considered to be of fundamental importance. Much of the work outlined in this volume was done in the author's laboratory, frequently in collaboration with his wife.
