Over the past several decades the study of the pineal has developed into an interdisciplinary study, and the collection of papers in this book brings together few surprises in the choice of biochemists, anatomists, physiologists, pharmacologists, and endocrinologists as contributors. There is no obvious organizational theme running through the volume of papers, but the collection is stimulating, well written, and especially timely. The open discussion that follows each presentation will no doubt leave the reader better able to judge the value of the symposium as partially successful in promoting an exchange of ideas among investigators of somewhat diverse interests.
