Fifteen years ago the first edition of this book was published as volume one of the Physical Medicine Library. Since that time there has been a tremendous growth in the use of electromyography and nerve conduction studies.
The new reader may be confused by the title of this text, since electromyography is a form of electrodiagnosis. The editor has chosen this title to emphasize the scope of this book. Electrodiagnosis is used here to refer to tests, now little used, based on the gross response of a muscle to electrical stimulation. Examples are the strength-duration curve and the reaction of
