Authorities from over 30 countries convened in Monaco on 25 to 29 May this year to consider the problem of cerebrovascular disease, promote better rehabilitative procedures, identify necessary resources, and recommend community programs for stroke prevention. The recommendations of the conference have now been published (1) by the World Health Organization, sponsor of the meeting. This slender pamphlet reviews world-wide statistics on stroke incidence and mortality, outlines a suggested schedule of acute treatment, discusses briefly the general goals of a program of prevention, and enumerates problems in future research.
