For a variety of reasons, this reviewer enjoys leisurely scans of lists of contributions to major texts such as this. It was startling to note that during the course of but 13 years and 2 editions of this text, only 27 of the original 86 authors remain as contributors. Some 64 newcomers have corrected the exodus—and beautifully, I might add. Can it be that the "contributor half-life" for scholars of pharmacology is something less than a decade? Somehow I suspect that senior pharmacologists can—no, must—carry on longer than this despite the ravages of time and toil.
