Prof. Labhart and his team of 20 co-workers have prepared a truly outstanding up-to-date and well-rounded textbook of endocrinology. Special emphasis is given to clinical aspects. The classical pictures of hyper- and hypo-function of the endocrine glands are covered as thoroughly as the physiology and pathology of the tissue hormones, the pathology of ectopic hormone-production (paraneoplastic syndromes), and the implications of endocrinology and hormone therapy in nonendocrine diseases.
The introductory chapter, "General Endocrinology," elaborates on the concept of hormones as the major regulators of metabolic processes and the correspondingly widened aspects and involvement of endocrinology. The presentation is outstanding for
