The preface to this collection of papers states that "The proceedings of the latest symposium form together with the previous two symposia a trilogy of increasing interest to the scientific and academic community." This, then, is not a textbook on viruses affecting man and animals as the title might imply; it is a series of predominantly excellent papers by leading scientists in their respective fields.
The symposium is divided into six sections: viral biology, virus-cell interaction, viral oncology, viral immunology, viral epidemiology and epizootiology, and prevention and control of viral diseases. The sections naturally overlap. A few authors present new,
