Forty-nine papers, 3 panels, and summary discussions, concerned with hospital-acquired infections in the United States, Canada, Denmark, Great Britain, Israel, and Yugoslavia; emphasis is on American experience. The papers are grouped by topics: microbial factors, emerging pathogens, host susceptibility, sources of nosocomial infections, air-control techniques, control of microbial contamination, systems for control, and legal aspects.
Although much of the conference was taken up with epidemiological and methodological matters, enough of the papers are focused on current problems with specific viral, bacterial, and fungal diseases to make this report a valuable source for the practicing clinician who wishes to stay on
