If the reader has the time and the patience to plough through this 911-page multiauthored volume, he will gain some kind of impression of present psychoanalytically-oriented group psychotherapy. In the process he is liable to be exhausted by the constant repetition from chapter to chapter, the unnecessary verbosity and the constant use of jargon. The need of some authors to champion their particular theoretical approach may tend to confuse the novice.
