A monograph that advocates wider use in surgery of transfusion of the patient's own blood (secured by venesection prospectively), with a view to eliminating the hazards (hepatitis, mismatching, malaria, and so on) of homologous transfusion. Includes a brief history of transfusion, data from the author's experience, and considerations of the effects of venesection on the elecrocardiogram and on hematological variables. Illustrations, bibliography, and index.
