Pulmonary artery diastolic pressure (PADP) provides a good estimate of left ventricular end-diastolic pressure. This study reports the clinical significance of the PADP, measured with the Swan-Ganz flow directed catheter, in 50 patients with acute myocardial infarction. The mean time of initial study after admission was 5 hours with a range of 0 to 27 hours. Fourteen patients had uncomplicated infarction (PADP, 14.3 ± 0.6 mm Hg), 22 had mild to moderate congestive heart failure (PADP, 21.7 ± 6.5 mm Hg), three were in overt pulmonary edema (PADP, 38.3 ± 10.6 mm Hg).
