Resistance, as used by Dr. Selye, connotes the protective reactions of organisms to environmental factors such as toxins, infection, and drugs. The bulk of the monograph serves as background for the presentation of studies in the author's laboratory relating stereochemistry of steroid hormones to protection against the toxic effects of various pharmacological agents. The effects of various other hormones are covered, as well as many interactions occurring between pharmacological agents.
