A medical writer and a medical librarian and professor of bibliography have combined their skills to describe in their book the careers of famous women—some doctors, some nurses, some scientists—within three divisions, "From Gods to Midwives," "The Struggle for Women's Rights in Medicine," and "Women in Related Fields."
They open with a brief account of the ancient Greek and Roman women who practiced medicine and surgery and of later women in the Middle Ages.
