To the editor: The design of the study reported in "Ventricular Arrhythmias Associated with the Ingestion of Alcohol," by Singer and Lundberg (Ann Intern Med 77:247-248, 1972), was such that no useful information could have been obtained in the end. The one challenge with alcohol in a single dose after a control period was followed by ventricular premature contractions and ventricular tachycardia. Not attempting to duplicate their finding, the authors proceeded with a different method of alcohol challenge; ingestion of alcohol was done over 1½ hours and under quinidine prophylaxis; no ventricular premature contractions occurred. No alcohol levels are given
