Procedure cards or a loose-leaf-binder manual of standard procedures are a necessity for any well-run clinical laboratory. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals recommends that these be filed alphabetically according to the substance to be tested for. Other desirable features of any manual should include a description of the principle of the test, statement of normal values, comments on procedure for trouble shooting, references, and clinical interpretation.
