To the editor: In the article by Fauchald, Rygvold, and Øystese in the December 1972 issue (Ann Intern Med 77:845-852, 1972) there is, I believe, a small but very significant error in line 5 of the last paragraph on page 851: it was probably the intent of the authors to say temporal arteritis and/or polymyalgia rheumatica rather than temporal arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatica, which implies that polymyalgia rheumatica without accompanying temporal arteritis need not be treated with steroids. Contrast this with the summary at the beginning of the article which correctly states, in the first line, temporal arteritis or polymyalgia
