Through these papers and essays selected from his own writings Dr. Mechanic examines from a sociological perspective the physical and mental problems in the health care system today. Despite an effort to weave the parts together, there are repetitions from time to time, incongruities rarely, and lack of smoothness here and there. Nevertheless the individual essays—especially the early ones—show a broad understanding of the subject, and they are supported by large, well-chosen lists of references.
