In the field of hepatitis, information is often exchanged by means of closed meetings (sponsored by the Army Epidemiology Board, The Center for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, and so forth) and a limited-subscription information sheet (the "Hepatitis Scientific Memorandum"). These practices could inhibit progress by fostering the impression that only a small in-group has the knowledge necessary to do research in this area. It is to counter this trend that Dr. Zuckerman has written this review of the world literature on hepatitis (as of March 1972).
