Sound methodology is a crucial foundation on which medical practice and research depend. Many are the hospitals in which the methods are the weakest link in the chain of events between the chief complaint and the delivery of high-quality health care, and many are the research projects that have foundered on inadequate method. In no area of medicine are these truisms more germane than in endocrinology.
