Under the aegis of the American Hospital Association a panel of distinguished physicians and other professionals concerned with the quality of health care have pooled their knowledge and experience to create a document designed to provide both a rationale and a how-to-do-it set of procedures for establishing a Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for hospital services. It is designed as a guide for hospital trustees, administrators, and medical staff in the development of a medical audit and utilization review mechanism for optimizing hospital medical care.
The document is an initial effort to establish guidelines and is published in loose-leaf form to
Quality Assurance Program for Medical Care in the Hospital.. Ann Intern Med. 1973;78:798–799. doi: 10.7326/0003-4819-78-5-798_2
