We have previously found that marijuana smoking and ingested delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9 THC) increased specific airway conductance in healthy young men. The response was dose-dependent, with average maximum increases in specific airway conduction of 48% ± 15% at 15 min after smoking of marijuana (assayed at 2% Δ9 THC) and of 45% ± 11% at 180 min after ingestion of 20 mg Δ9 THC. To elucidate the mechanism of bronchodilation, two sets of experiments were performed.
