Measured by the quality of its proceedings, this was an effective symposium on the evaluation of care. The workshop participants, the discussants, and the guest speakers—Drs. Eugene Stead, Avedis, Donabedian, and Clement Brown—raised the critical issues in care evaluation in a well-orchestrated and competently recorded interchange.
But measured against its own objectives, the contribution of the conference is less clear. Two objectives were specified: to stimulate the University of Connecticut to evaluate its own health care services, and to develop closer relations between the new School of Medicine and the community hospitals through a joint discussion.
