The varied achievements in medical science over the last decades, especially in heart disease, have been given a good deal of coverage by the press. Although most laymen don't understand the basic physiology and biochemistry that underlie these advances, their curiosity and interest have been stimulated, and, when they become sick, they tend to ask many more questions of their physicians than patients of 20 or 30 years ago might have done.
