It is seldom nowadays that a book as diverse and far-ranging in subject as this appears under single authorship. Therefore, it is with increased interest that one approaches this text, since few people can successfully review and document the expansion in knowledge that has overtaken endocrinology—male or female—in the last few decades.
Although the author can be commended for making the attempt, one is soon sadly disappointed by the results. The book is composed of 11 parts; basic physiology of sex steroids and their control mechanisms dominate the first sections, followed by sections encompassing sexual development and steroid evolution in
