A slender volume describing the neuropathology of the alimentary tract would be a welcome reference work, if it served as a compendium of important, recent advances in the rapidly developing area of the control of normal and abnormal gastrointestinal motor function. This volume does not meet that challenge. One reason it does not may be quickly recognized during even a brief perusal of the book. The fault is that the concepts of physiology and pathophysiology of the gastrointestinal tract, as they are presented here, are simply not current.
