In the third edition of Renal Disease, Black has again emphasized selected aspects of nephrology, particularly those that he considers to be on the frontiers of the field. The third edition maintains the very high standards set by the first two editions. Of the 30 chapters, many are new; most of them are up-to-date reviews that cover, particularly, the more recent advances in their subjects.
In Part 1, the anatomy, physiology, pathology, and radiology of the kidney are discussed. The book begins with a review by Coupland of the embryology, blood supply, histology, ultrastructure, and histochemistry of the normal kidney.
