It is possibly unfair for a gastroenterologist to review a monograph by a surgeon on a topic that is under a surgeon's daily clinical attention. The importance of this field cannot be underestimated, however, and Dr. Marks merits credit for his attempt to present comprehensively the interrelated information on the portal venous system within the covers of this slim volume.
