Computer technology first appeared in medicine and biology as an adjunct to research studies. Increasingly computer methodology has been applied to support health care delivery. The editors have assembled 15 chapters that are intended to cover the entire field. A few of the chapters really discuss, albeit in a cursory overview, actual computer techniques. Most of the chapters are more concerned with applications of these techniques. Each chapter is written by a separate author, and only minimal cross-references are provided. Thus, this text is essentially a compilation of selected applications, even though it is supplemented by an extensive common index.
