In many ways this book represents a summary of the experience of Dr. Wheatley's General Practitioner Research Group in the United Kingdom. The group is made up of primary care physicians who have used psychoactive drugs extensively in the treatment of patients with psychiatric symptoms. Their research is summarized in 11 chapters. These include the rationale for setting up a study group of this type and its organization and methodology. Subsequent chapters are devoted to some of the major areas of psychopharmacology, including the use of drugs in anxiety and depression.
