Two decades of accrued additions to knowledge obliged revision of the 1949-51 edition of the Handbuch of which this is volume IV in the new set. Volume I (1967) concerns viral infections; volume II (1968), bacterial infections; volume III (1969), mycoses. Volume IV (1972) is the final one and is about rickettsial and protozoal diseases. All volumes are reasonably priced.
Good editing produced chapters of uniform excellence packed with information. Space allotment is appropriate to the importance of the subjects. Malaria fills 133 pages, with 17 pages of references; coccidiosis fills 8 pages. The usual order of presentation includes definition,
