The written accounts from recent medical travelers to the People's Republic of China rapidly have become obsolete because of our widening political and cultural exchanges with that country. Dr. Jain, a neurosurgeon and a member of a Canadian delegation from the University of British Columbia, made a 1-month journey to China in the summer of 1971. His observations, some of them sensational at the time for Western observers, have been confirmed and greatly expanded on by American biologists and physicians who have subsequently visited the People's Republic.
