A woman with chronic sinoatrial tachycardia developed ventricular dysfunction 9 years after the onset of the tachycardia. Her history suggests that the myocardial contractile alterations may be a result rather than a cause of tachycardia. The cause of the tachycardia was not defined despite unique responses to electrophysiologic tests. Despite severely altered ventricular function, beta-adrenergic blockade markedly improved symptoms and hemodynamics.
