A "handbook" may be defined as a treatise lying somewhere between a textbook and an outline. Dr. Dillon's comprehensive effort comes very close to the former. Its presentation from the literature of multiple points of view on a single subject, plus a very good bibliography to buttress opinions offered, make it a real mini-textbook. The physiology of the endocrine glands, the diseases thereof, and the allied diseases of lipid metabolism are well covered, but within the limits imposed when a single author writes on a broad field.
