Training programs in medical oncology should provide formal psychosocial education. The program at the Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, New York, includes biweekly conferences attended by members of the Medical Oncology and the Medical-Psychiatric Liaison staffs. These sessions are concerned with specific patient-oriented problems. Several examples of such conferences are described, including their applicability to the overall management of the patient.
