Attempting to write a scientifically accurate and up-to-date textbook that encompasses both immunology and microbiology is like trying to grasp a tiger by the tail. These fields are developing so rapidly that one is almost surely doomed to publish much material that is out of date by the time it gets into print. The two authors of this text have attempted to cover the essentials of immunology, bacteriology, virology, mycology, infectious disease, and so forth.
The most attractive features of this textbook are the sections on definitions, history, principles of host-parasite interrelations, and basic immunology. These are in the introductory
