The stated purposes of this symposium are to "present practical and useful clinical information for the practicing physician" and "to enlarge his perspective by providing exposure to 'ancillary' fields of cellular pathophysiology and pharmacology." The latter objective is reasonably well met, but the first has not been uniformly attained.
The book consists of 45 chapters divided into 8 major sections: the normal and failing heart, preventing coronary disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, arterial hypertension, disorders of cardiac rhythm, cardiac disease of infectious or undetermined cause, and advancing frontiers in surgical treatment for cardiovascular disease.
