There seems to be a need for a short monograph dealing with the practical antibiotic management of critically ill patients. I know of no single source easily available to physicians in which the approach to the septic patient is laid out in more detail than available in currently used ward manuals or the Medical Letter. Sepsis, in some ways, fills this void. It presents a very practical and individual approach to septic patients. I found that I had very little disagreement with the authors' approach to infected patients, their judgment of possible organisms in certain types of sepsis, or choice
