The initial objective of this book was "to include those fields of medical and related sciences that form the foundation of public health work" and to present facts for the convenience of the medical student and physician as well as those engaged in sanitary engineering or public health work. This is a tall order for any book. There is a large section on infectious disease, and this takes up just over 400 pages.
