Attempts have been made for years to promote international cooperation in developing the field of hepatology. This book, with its 47 contributors from various regions of the world, represents the latest effort. Appropriately, it is dedicated to Dr. Hans Popper in part for his countless contributions to man's understanding of the liver and its diseases and for his leadership in organizing the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the International Association for the Study of the Liver.
Many topics usually found in hepatology textbooks and monographs are covered here as well. These include, among others, bilirubin metabolism
