The wide availability of excellent books on heart sounds and murmurs makes an additional volume on this subject unnecessary unless it can compensate for some of the deficiencies found in previously published monographs. Unfortunately, this book falls short of this mark.
It is presented in four sections dealing with fundamentals of acoustics, normal and abnormal heart sounds and murmurs, auscultatory findings in specific cardiovascular diseases, and methods and techniques in phonocardiography. The first section is well done and provides the reader with a good review of fundamental principles in the physics of sound.
