Rather than simply revise the first edition, the authors chose to rewrite this book almost entirely. The basic organization remains the same. The physical concepts and available hemodialysis are discussed first; then, the organization of a dialysis unit. Following are chapters on access to the circulation and selection and care of the patient. Most of the book is a series of chapters on individual organ systems. Each of these chapters reviews the major changes found in patients with chronic renal failure and the effects of long-term hemodialysis.
