The thrust of the seventh edition of Duncan's Diseases of Metabolism. Genetics and Metabolism is to indicate the validity of the concept that "knowledge about the nature and control of metabolic processes has progressed to such a degree that it is possible to consider all diseases to be either a result of a primary metabolic abnormality or a metabolic derangement resulting from some extrinsic cause." Although the book does not extend this idea to specific entities beyond the traditional sphere of diseases of metabolism and "inborn errors," there is an excellent, concise chapter on "Inborn Errors of Metabolism" that presents
